Psychologist Dr Meredith Rayner*

Dr Meredith Rayner (PhD), psychologist, started private practice here in July 2011 and consults alternate Saturdays. She is highly experienced in general psychology, as well as in child and adolescent psychology, with particular expertise in developing effective parenting. Meredith lives in the local community and also works part-time with the Child and Infant Mental Health Team at the Ballarat Hospital. Additionally, she works within some local schools with children, their parents and their teachers.

Meredith graduated with Honours from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Science, and has completed the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Psychology) through Swinburne University. She has previously worked as an organisational psychologist in the areas of team building, leadership development and change management, before returning to study and taking on child and parenting work.

She is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society , and her main therapeutic approaches are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

She may be consulted privately (no Medicare rebate although a rebate may apply if you have appropriate private health insurance) or through your doctor under a Mental Health Care Plan (Medicare rebate available). Please discuss your eligibility for the Medicare rebate with your doctor.

Psychologist Ms Maria Azzopardi

Ms Maria Azzopardi, psychologist, commenced private consulting at The Elms in June 2013 and is available every Monday. She has experience in child and adolescent psychology, as well as managing depression, anxiety, grief, post traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and conditions related to substance abuse. She has a professional interest in personality disorders and uses a wide range of techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Maria graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Psychology, and has also completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) with Honours at Bond University and a Post-Graduate Diploma of Psychotherapy at Cairnmillar Institute.

She is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society and has worked in various fields including public psychiatry services, community counselling, crisis intervention, primary school counselling and worker rehabilitation.

Psychologist Mr Melas Khole

Mr Melas Khole, psychologist and psychodramatist, started private consulting at The Elms in October 2016 and is available every Thursday. He is a general psychologist who works mainly with adults, and has special interests in anger and aggression management, depression and anxiety, psychological trauma, grief and loss, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, drug and alcohol issues, and workplace conflict resolution. Melas utilises a variety of psychological strategies, including mindfulness, process-oriented "talk therapy", relaxation, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and psychodrama techniques.

Melas holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Applied) from James Cook University, Queensland, and further advanced training in psychodrama. He is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society and has worked in both public and private sectors, including the Victorian correctional services.
